Have a beautiful day! Enjoy spring relaxation in a warm Roving style!

I would like to introduce you to a project that combines modern outdoor style with maximum comfort. This vest made of Roving yarn is the ideal companion for changeable spring and autumn days – from city walks to trips into nature. Its charm lies in the combination of a distinct texture, a high turtleneck, and a practical hood, making it an indispensable piece for layering.

The vest is crocheted using double crochets, making the work very simple and suitable even for beginners. The dominant feature is the kangaroo pocket with a decorative cable pattern and clean lines of a seamless cut. Thanks to the thicker woolen yarn, the work progresses quickly, and in the pattern, I will show you how to easily adjust the dimensions for any size – from a children's version to a maxi vest.

The pattern will clearly guide you through all phases: from the body of the vest through shaping the hood to the final details. The result will be a stylish and functional piece that will reliably keep you warm.

Instructions for the Pattern

The pattern is prepared for women's size S/M.

The vest has a classic fit, under which a t-shirt or a thinner sweater comfortably fits. You can very easily adjust the size to be smaller or larger, for children or adults, simply by changing the number of stitches and rows.

More detailed recommendations on how to adjust the dimensions can be found in the instructions below. The vest is crocheted in a classic length to the waist and is an ideal accessory for colder days from autumn to spring. It is crocheted from the bottom up in rows.

At the top, a rectangular neckline is shaped, followed by a warm turtleneck. For the main part of the vest and the turtleneck, I chose a striking red color.

You can complement the entire model with a hood and a practical kangaroo pocket. For these two details, I chose a contrasting anthracite color so that their structure and pattern stand out beautifully on the vest. You can, of course, use a combination of other shades that best match your wardrobe.

Pattern and Fit Details

The vest is crocheted in rows, the sides are straight, without widening – they are rectangles.

The entire model is crocheted with double crochets.

The exception is the kangaroo pocket with a cable pattern, where you will use a combination of double crochets and treble crochets.

The pattern features a classic fit with waist length. You can easily adjust the length by adding or removing any number of rows in the main part ("body") of the vest.

The turtleneck is crocheted in a ribbed pattern using back post single crochets. You can determine its height yourself by changing the number of stitches in a row.

The hood is shaped directly to the shape of the head with a rounding at the top. The basic pattern is prepared for a head circumference of 54 cm; in the description, you will find instructions on how to easily adjust its size.

The kangaroo pocket is crocheted as a separate piece, and after completion, it is simply sewn onto the front part of the vest. The pocket tapers smoothly upwards, so its sides are slanted.

The dominant feature is the cable pattern that edges the sides of the pocket and adds interesting texture and depth. Thanks to this shape and placement, the pocket is not only stylish but also very practical.

Important Advice Before Starting Work

Measuring during work Regular check: Regularly lay the finished parts on a flat surface and remeasure them. This ensures that you are precisely following the intended dimensions.

Vest ease: Clothing patterns usually account for so-called "ease". This is the difference between your body measurements and the measurements of the finished piece of clothing.

Fit selection: Decide whether you prefer a fitted, classic, or modern oversized fit, and adjust the number of stitches accordingly so that the result fits you perfectly.

Pattern consistency and tension

Key to neatness: With a double crochet pattern, it is essential to maintain the same tension throughout. Only then will the surface of the knit look neat and professional.

Even yarn handling: Try to keep the yarn equally loose in your hand. This is particularly important with Roving yarn to keep the vest fluffy.

Size and Material Planning

Preparation: Before you start crocheting, consider the final length and width of the vest.

Consumption: Remember that if you decide on a larger size or a significant length extension, you will need a larger amount of yarn.

Size: Women's S/M, wider fit

Vest Body l
ength to armhole: 36 cm (third decrease)
Width: 50 cm total
length: 62 cm

Neckline:
width: 15 cm
height: 12 cm

Hood Dimensions:
width: 44 cm
height: 36 cm
length of top seam: 20 cm

Pocket Dimensions:
width - bottom: 31 cm
width - top: 20 cm
height: 20 cm

Side Join:
width: 1 cm
join (3 stitches): 1.5 cm
Window: 14 cm

Bottom Hem - Ribbed Pattern: length: 3 cm

Dimensions are measured on the garment laid flat, before the yarn stretches/relaxes.

I wish you pleasant moments with a hook in your hand, and may the Roving vest turn out exactly according to your ideas!
