The INKA Cardigan is crocheted from beautiful variegated yarn and boasts a simple, straight cut that suits any body type. It's perfect for layering over a tank top, t-shirt, or dress, adding a unique and casual style to any outfit.
The best part? It's crocheted without a single seam! This modern piece boasts a captivating combination of simplicity and an intricate lace pattern. It's a joy to create and its versatile design easily adapts to your body. Plus, you can easily adjust the length and width of the cardigan so it fits you perfectly, creating a stylish and comfortable piece for any occasion.
Construction
This timeless cardigan is made from simple, easy-to-crochet rectangles. The body of the cardigan (the front and back panels) is created from one large rectangle, crocheted from the bottom up. The top section is then divided into individual panels, which are joined at the shoulders. The sleeves are then crocheted directly into the resulting armholes. To finish, the entire cardigan is bordered with single crochet stitches, giving it a neat and professional look.
Fit and Sizing
The cardigan features a classic straight cut with long sleeves and a waist-length fit, making it a versatile and timeless piece suitable for year-round wear. The pattern is written for a women's size S/M with a wider, looser fit. However, the size is very flexible and can easily be adjusted for smaller or larger sizes, for children or adults, simply by changing the number of rows and stitches. This ensures the garment will be a perfect fit for you.

Construction: RECTAGLES
The pattern below is written for a women's size S/M. The cardigan has a classic cut, designed to be worn over a t-shirt or sweatshirt.
The size can be easily adjusted for smaller or larger sizes, for both children and adults, by simply changing the number of stitches and rows. Instructions on how to adjust the cardigan are included below.
The cardigan is crocheted like a simple classic sweater, featuring long sleeves and a cropped, waist-length fit. This makes it a timeless piece suitable for year-round wear. It is crocheted from the bottom up.
Cardigan body - Step-by-Step Instructions
Simultaneously crochet the front panels and the back panel in one piece, working up to the length of the underarms.
Next, crochet the top part of the back panel in the center of the rectangle, working up to the shoulder length.
Then, attach the yarn at the armpit and crochet the top part of the front panel to the same length as the back panel.
Repeat the process to crochet the front panel on the opposite side.
Join the front panels and the back panel at the shoulders, which creates the armholes.
The sleeves are crocheted into the armholes. The entire cardigan is finished with a border of single crochet stitches.
The cardigan body is crocheted in rows, with the sides worked straight, with no shaping. The sleeves are crocheted in joined rounds and are slightly tapered for approximately two-thirds of their length before being worked straight with no tapering. The sleeves are crocheted to seamlessly continue from the body, using the same pattern, and are worked in closed rounds along the side of the cardigan.
The stitches used in the pattern are single crochet and double crochet, with chain stitches worked between them to create an airy, lacy texture.
In this pattern, I chose a classic, waist-length cut with long sleeves. If you prefer a longer cardigan or longer sleeves, you can easily adjust the length by simply crocheting more rows on the body or the sleeves.
I crocheted this cardigan using a variegated skein of Inka yarn and combined it with a solid-colored skein of Aura. You can, of course, use any other combination of colors you like.
Pattern Instructions
Instructions Before You Start
Before you begin, I recommend deciding on your desired length and width. This pattern is written for a women’s size S/M with a wider fit. The size can be easily adjusted to be smaller or larger by changing the number of stitches in each row and the total number of rows. Remember that for a larger size, you will need more yarn.
Basic Stitch Rules
A chain stitch (ch) at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch. Always crochet the first stitch into the first stitch of the previous row.
3 chain stitches (ch) at the beginning of a row count as a double crochet (dc).
Parts of the Cardigan
The cardigan is made up of simple, easy-to-crochet rectangles:
A) Cardigan Body: The bottom section, with the back and front panels crocheted together, is one large rectangle.
B) Back Panel: A rectangle in the center of part A.
C) Front Panels: Rectangles on the sides of part A, with a straight neckline.
D) Sleeves: Crocheted onto the sides of the front and back panels.
E) Border: Crocheted around the entire cardigan.
Crochet Process
The cardigan is crocheted from the bottom up. First, you will work part A, the cardigan body. Then, you will continue with parts B (back panel) and C (front panels), which are joined at the shoulders. The sleeves are crocheted into the armholes, and finally, the entire cardigan is edged with a border.
Written Pattern
The number in parentheses in the pattern, for example, [ ], indicates the total stitch count for that row.
The pattern is created by repeating a sequence of 11 rows.

Tips and Recommendations:
Adjusting Size and Design, Crocheting Notes
Lay your pieces flat and measure them regularly to make sure you're meeting the intended size. A loosely crocheted, airy lace pattern can stretch slightly, especially with certain cotton or natural yarns (like linen, bamboo, etc.).
Planning for Ease
Garment patterns usually include "ease," which is the difference between the measurements of the finished garment and your body measurements. Decide what level of ease you prefer (fitted, classic, loose, or oversized) and adjust the size accordingly to ensure the garment fits well and is comfortable.
Pattern Consistency & Even Tension Maintaining consistent tension throughout the entire project is key for a neat and beautiful airy lace pattern. Try to keep your tension even and your stitches consistent.
Closure
The closure can be at the top of the neckline, or you can fasten the sides of the front panels from top to bottom—it's up to your preference.
Button Closure
Sew a larger button (or buttons) onto one side of the front panel, on the second stitch. The button will fasten on the opposite panel in the space between the first and second stitches.
Tie Closure
Crochet a tie of the required length (in my pattern, it's 45). You can crochet a foundation chain and then work slip stitches or single crochet along the chain. Alternatively, you can crochet a chain using 3 strands of yarn.
Thread the tie through the spaces between the stitches on the left and right panels and tie it in a knot or a bow.

Special Techniques
What is a Cluster Stitch?
A cluster stitch is essentially a group of unfinished stitches that are joined together at the top.
Unlike a decrease (like dc2tog, where two stitches converge into one point, reducing the stitch count),
a cluster adds texture and volume.
It's typically crocheted into a single stitch or space.
The cluster in this pattern consists of three unfinished treble crochets (tr), which are crocheted together at the end.
This cluster is worked into a chain space.
The result: You'll create a beautiful, raised, "puff-like" texture formed by three treble crochets that share the same base and the same top.
How to Crochet a 3-Treble Crochet Cluster
(3-Tr Cluster):
This cluster consists of three incomplete treble crochets worked into the same chain space, then joined at the top.
First Incomplete Treble Crochet:
- Yarn over (YO) twice (you'll have 3 loops on your hook).
- Insert hook into the chain space.
- YO and pull up a loop (you'll have 4 loops on your hook).
- YO and pull through the first 2 loops on your hook (3 loops remaining).
- YO and pull through the next 2 loops on your hook (2 loops remaining).
- STOP HERE. Leave these 2 loops on your hook.
Second Incomplete Treble Crochet:
- YO twice.
- Insert hook into the SAME chain space.
- YO and pull up a loop (5 loops on your hook).
- YO and pull through the first 2 loops on your hook (4 loops remaining).
- YO and pull through the next 2 loops on your hook (3 loops remaining).
- STOP HERE. Leave these 3 loops on your hook.
Third Incomplete Treble Crochet:
- YO twice.
- Insert hook into the SAME chain space.
- YO and pull up a loop (6 loops on your hook).
- YO and pull through the first 2 loops on your hook (5 loops remaining).
- YO and pull through the next 2 loops on your hook (4 loops remaining).
- STOP HERE. Leave these 4 loops on your hook.
