A beautiful day to all my dear talented friends!
I'm thrilled to introduce you to the new pattern: The Daisy Dream Sweater: A Return to Classic Romance - a modern granny square design with a simple construction for spring and autumn.
This romantic and timeless sweater, with its simple, straight cut and airy design, is perfect for spring and autumn days as well as cooler summer mornings and evenings. Thanks to its straightforward construction, assembled from individual granny squares, crocheting this piece will be a joy for everyone.
The main body of the sweater is made from a lovely cotton yarn called Tony in an elegant green, while the daisies are crocheted from yellow Bambuška bamboo yarn and white Baby Best acrylic yarn. This combination is also a great opportunity to use up your leftover yarn.
The sweater’s unique details are highlighted by a charming shell stitch border and trendy tie closures. The pattern is written for sizes M/L, but the size can easily be adjusted by adding or subtracting squares.

The Daisy Dream Sweater: A Return to Classic Romance
Construction: SQUARES
Construction & Sizing
- This pattern is primarily written for a women's size L/M, but thanks to its simple cut and construction, it is easy to adjust it to any size, from a child's to an adult's.
- Simply adjust the number of stitches and rows; detailed instructions can be found within the pattern itself.
Design and Construction
- The sweater is crocheted from individual granny squares, which makes it a fun and unique project. Each square has a daisy in the middle with a yellow center and white petals. The petals have a raised, textured pattern that gives them a 3D effect.
- First, you crochet a circle that is then expanded into a square. After two rows of the granny pattern, the squares are crocheted together to form the individual pieces for the front, back, and sleeves. The front and back pieces are then joined at the shoulders and sides to create the armholes for the sleeves.
- The entire sweater is finished with a border of an elegant shell stitch. The body and neckline of the sweater are straight, while the sleeves are slightly tapered.
Yarn and Customization
- For this sweater, I primarily used the green Tony yarn, but you can, of course, use any combination of colors.
- To achieve a different length for the sweater or sleeves, simply crochet larger or smaller squares, or add or subtract their number on the individual pieces.
- The pattern uses various types of stitches, including single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, and treble crochet.
- The squares are joined with half double crochet and chain stitches, creating a romantic, airy pattern.
Before You Begin
Before you start, I recommend deciding on your desired sweater length and width.
This pattern is written for a women's size M/L with a more relaxed fit. You can easily adjust the size to be smaller or larger (for children or adults) by changing the size of the squares or the total number of squares in each piece. Keep in mind that you will need more yarn for a larger size.
Basic Stitch Rules
- 1 chain (ch) at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch. Always work the first stitch into the first stitch of the previous row.
- 2 chains (ch) at the beginning of a row count as a half double crochet (hdc).
- 3 chains (ch) at the beginning of a row count as a double crochet (dc).
- 4 chains (ch) at the beginning of a row count as a treble crochet (tr).
Sweater Pieces and Assembly
The sweater is made of 46 squares, which are arranged into the following sections:
- Back Panel (A): A rectangle of 16 squares (4 x 4)
- Front Panels (B): 7 squares for each panel
- Sleeves (C): 8 squares for each sleeve. The sleeves are slightly widened by adding extra rows.
- Border: A shell stitch border crocheted around the entire sweater.
How to Assemble
- Crochet all of your squares and arrange them according to the individual pieces (A, B, C).
- First, crochet the back panel (A) to the front panels (B) at the shoulders and sides to create the armholes.
- Attach the sleeves (C) into the armholes.
- Finally, crochet the shell stitch border around the entire sweater.

Tips and Recommendations:
Sizing:
As you work, lay your pieces flat and measure them regularly to ensure you are achieving the intended size. Loosely crocheted lace patterns can stretch slightly, especially with certain cotton or natural yarns (linen, bamboo, etc.).
Planning for Ease: Garment patterns typically include "ease," which is the difference between the finished garment's measurements and your body's measurements. Decide how much ease you prefer (fitted, classic, loose, or oversized) and adjust your size accordingly to ensure the garment fits and feels great.
Pattern Consistency and Even Tension: Maintaining even tension throughout the entire project is crucial for a neat and well-defined airy lace pattern. Try to keep your yarn tension consistent so that your stitches are uniform.
The pattern uses a variety of stitches, including single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, and treble crochet, which together create a unique, romantic, and airy design.
Closure - Fastening
You can fasten your piece just at the top of the neckline, or you can button up the entire front panels from top to bottom—it's up to you.
Buttons
- Sew one or more large buttons onto one of the front panels. For example, you can place them on the second stitch from the edge.
- The buttonhole on the opposite panel is simply the space between the first and second stitch.
Ties
- Attach your yarn to the top corner of a front panel and crochet a chain approximately 30 cm long.
- Note: In my pattern, I crocheted the tie with four strands of yarn (2x Katka and 2x Bambuška) to make it stronger.
- You can also crochet the tie with two strands and then reinforce it with a row of sl sts or single crochets (sc).
- In the same way, crochet a tie in the corner of the opposite front panel.
- Finish by tying the ties into a knot or a bow.
Size: Women's M/L, Loose Fit
Sweater Body
- Height: 48 cm (18.9 in)
- Width: 48 cm (18.9 in)
Cardigan Body - Front Panel
- Height: 48 cm (18.9 in)
- Width: 24 cm (9.4 in)
Neckline
- Width: 24 cm (9.4 in)
- Height: 13 cm (5.1 in)
Sleeve
- Length: 50 cm (19.7 in)
- Width: 19 cm (7.5 in)
- Width at end: 13 cm (5.1 in)
Note: Measurements were taken with the garment laid flat, before the yarn stretches or relaxes.
