The EASIEST cosy X-twist headband and waistcoat stitch

2024-02-27

Today I have prepared for you a tutorial for a wonderful classic headband in a simple style.

The headband has a very simple construction, where you crochet the entire headband as one piece and after crocheting the required length, you connect the headband by X twist seem.

I chose a beautiful soft and pleasant Dante yarn and a classic white color that goes with every piece of clothing. The yarn is very pleasant and soft and affordable.

For this headband, I chose a simple pattern - and at the same time very ORIGINAL and still modern, interesting to look at - a pattern of center stitch single crochet stitches. I love this waistcoat pattern! I decided to use waistcoat stitch and x-twist seem - they together are perfect to create a wonderful pattern!

The headband has 2 layers and is therefore quite dense, but still very soft, cosy and pleasant, and the headband will reliably warm your ears during the winter months and until spring. The headband is great and ideal from fall to spring, also suitable for the colder months of winter time.

I chose my favorite technique, how to connect the headband in an interesting way, with an X twist seem on the front.  In my pattern and tutorial I will show you how to easily create lovely x-twist on the front. I really love this effect and it so easy to create it. This eyes-catching twist is made by sewing the two edges together which is actually the seam.

Keep warm in these modern waistcoat stitch crochet ear warmers!

The pattern is also perfect for beginners, as soon as you master the technique, we just repeat crocheting the waist coast stitch all around.

Do you like this simple X twist headband?

CROCHET COSY X-TWIST WAIST COAST STITCH HEADBAND - DIRECTIONS

So let me now get started and tell you what you will need in order to crochet this amazing CROCHET COSY X-TWIST WAIST COAST STITCH HEADBAND.

This CROCHET COSY X-TWIST WAIST COAST STITCH HEADBAND is very fun and quick to make.

The pattern uses only basic crochet stitches - centre stitch single crochets.

This easy-to-fit headband is a crocheter's dream, made flat without the need for shaping.
The pretty waistcoat stitch pattern and an interesting x-twist seem on front.

The entire HEADBAND is crocheted with amazing yarns DANTE.

The choice of yarn was easy - I chose a beautiful pleasant soft acrylic Dante yarn

Dante: 100g / 160 m / 100% acrylic

Dante: https://www.vlnika.cz/z19373-prize-dante

img_4142.jpeg

For a women's HEADBAND size MEDIUM you will need: 1 Dante ball

I like Dante yarn very much, acrylic is light, soft, affordable and easy to maintain.
In addition, you can choose from many colors and also from self-patterning balls.

Hook 5.5 mm

Also need a sewing needle and scissors.

Size: bellow there is a pattern for woman size, the head measurement 22 inch / 56 cm, this one fits also to teenage girls. The headband can easily be adapted to a smaller size or bigger size just by making the starting chain longer or shorter.

Difficulty Level: Level 1 – Easy, for beginners

Abbreviations (US Crochet Terms):
SP - space
SlSt – slip stitch

CH/s – chain/s

SC - single crochet
CSSC - center single crochet / waistcoat stitch
SK - skip
T - turn
ST/s - stitch(es)
REP - repeat
YO – yarn over
RS -
right side
WS - wrong side

Special technic: waistcoat stitch in rounds

The waistcoat stitch is basically the same as a standard single crochet stitch:
Step 1: Insert your hook into the next stitch of the previous round
To crochet waistcoat stitch you insert the hook into the lower V of the sc stitch of the previous round.
Step 2: Yarn over and pull through a loop
Step 3: Yarn over and pull through the two loops on your hook
This produces rows and rows of Vs, creating that stocking stitch knitted appearance.

If you are working in the round and making several rounds in the same colour, you can work in a spiral. When you reach your starting chain, gently pull it out and replace it with a waistcoat stitch. Then work your next waistcoat stitch straight into the first waistcoat stitch of the previous round. Place a stitch marker so that you know where the round begins and continue for the required number of rounds.

HOW TO MAKE X-TWIST

To make this simple x-twist, you’ll first crochet a rectangle and then fold it and sew to secure the ends together. The way you fold the ends together is what creates the twist.

Lay your headband the right side facing up. Bring the ends of the headband together so half of one end is against half of the other end.

Wrap each side around the other side of the headband: fold each end towards the center of the work. Then fold one end in half and next, fold the other end in half. Slide the two folded ends together and even out the stitches.

It should have four edges lined up. Using the long tail from above, thread it on the large yarn needle. Sew the four edges together, weave yarn back and forth through all four layers. End off yarn, weave in ends. Turn your headband the right side out and smooth down.

You are all done with your amazing EAR WARMER!

Now that your HEADBAND is assembled you will hide all loose tails in the wrong side of your work and turn it right side facing you and you are all done my friends.

You are all done with your amazing beautiful CROCHET COSY X-TWIST WAIST COAST STITCH HEADBAND
