How to CROCHET CHRISTMAS TABLE PLACEMAT

This CROCHET CHRISTMAS TABLE PLACEMAT is an adorable little Christmas decoration, super easy and quick to crochet, great project for beginners. 

CROCHET CHRISTMAS TABLE PLACEMAT - MATERIALS

I have used a macrame yarn you like or any yarn you like but different yarn weights will produce different sized tablemat. 

The pattern was made with:

Macrome Lurex Mocha yarn: 250 g / 200 m / 60 % cotton / 40 % polyester / 10 % lurexhttps://www.vlnika.cz/z15302-prize-macrome-lurex-mocha

4.5 mm crochet hook

Scissors

Sewing/Embroidery and yarn needle/tapestry needle for sewing pieces together and weaving in ends

Marker

Difficulty Level: Level 1 – Easy, for beginners

US crochet terms:

SlSt – slip stitch

CH/s – chain/s

SC - single crochet

DC - double crochet

TR - treble 

SK - skip

T - turn

ST/s - stitch(es)

REP – repeat

Special stitches: 
DC3TOG = double crochet 3 stitches together

DC2TOG instructions: The TOG crochet abbreviation is simply shorthand for “together,” while the beginning determines the type of stitch. In this case, SC2 stands for “single crochet two.”, DC2 stands for "double crochet two", DC3 stands for "double crochet three" etc.

How to decrease with dc3tog: yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull yarn through 2 loops (2 loops on hook), yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull yarn through 2 loops (3 loops on hook),  yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull yarn through 2 loops (4 loops on hook), yarn over and pull yarn through all 4 loops on hook

PATTERN NOTES

1) The place mat is crocheted as a one piece from the middle 

2) Magic ring = the starting point for crocheting. Use which ever method you prefer.

3) Chain 3 at the beginning of the row is a stitch = double crochet

4) Crochet the placemat in CLOSED rounds, finish the row with a slip stitch in the 3rd ch from the beginning of the row and start the next row with 3 ch.

5) ( ) – The number of stitches that should be in a completed round/row are placed in brackets at the end of that round’s/row’s instructions

6) This CROCHET CHRISTMAS TABLE PLACEMAT measures:

15.5 inch / 40 cm 

The finished size will depend on what yarn you use, as well as your tension and hook

Make a magic ring

R1: ch3, 11dc in magic ring, close the round with a sl st in 3rd ch from beg  (12 dc)

R2: ch3(dc), 1dc in 1st st, *2dc in next st* repeat from * to * till end of row, close the round with a sl st in 3rd ch from beg  (24 dc)

R3: ch3(dc), 1dc in 1st st, ch2, sk 1 st *2dc in next st, ch2, sk 1 st* repeat from * to * till end of row, close the round with a sl st in 3rd ch from beg  

R4: sl st in next 2st, ch3(dc), (1dc, ch1, 2dc) in chsp, ch1 *(2dc, ch1, 2dc) in next chsp, ch1* repeat from * to * till end of row, close the round with a sl st in 3rd ch from beg  

R5: sl st in next 2st, ch3(dc), (1dc, ch2, 2dc) in chsp, ch2, sk next chsp *(2dc, ch2, 2dc) in next chsp, ch2, sk next chsp* repeat from * to * till end of row, close the round with a sl st in 3rd ch from beg  

R6: sl st in next 2st, ch3(dc), (1dc, ch3, 2dc) in chsp, ch3, sk next chsp *(2dc, ch3, 2dc) in next chsp, ch3, sk next chsp* repeat from * to * till end of row, close the round with a sl st in 3rd ch from beg

R7: sl st in next 2st, ch3(dc), (1dc, ch3, 2dc) in chsp, ch3, sk next chsp, 9tr in next chsp, ch3 *(2dc, ch3, 2dc) in next chsp, ch3, sk next chsp, 9tr in next chsp, ch3* repeat from * to * till end of row, close the round with a sl st in 3rd ch from beg   

R8: sl st in next 2st, ch3(dc), (1dc, ch3, 2dc) in chsp, ch4, 1tr in next 9 tr, ch4 *(2dc, ch3, 2dc) in next chsp, ch4, 1 tr in next 9 tr, ch4* repeat from * to * till end of row, close the round with a sl st in 3rd ch from beg   

R9: sl st in next 2st, ch3(dc), (1dc, ch3, 2dc) in chsp, ch4, 1tr in next 9 tr, ch4 *(2dc, ch3, 2dc) in next chsp, ch4, 1tr in next 9 tr, ch4* repeat from * to * till end of row, close the round with a sl st in 3rd ch from beg   

R10: sl st in next 2st, ch3(dc), (1dc, ch3, 2dc) in chsp, ch4, 3dc do tr, (ch1, sk 1 tr, 3dc in next tr) repeat 4 times, ch4 *(2dc, ch3, 2dc) in next chsp, ch4, 3dc do tr, (ch1, sk 1 tr, 3dc in next tr) repeat 4 times, ch4 * repeat from * to * till end of row, close the round with a sl st in 3rd ch from beg   

R11: sl st in next 2st, ch3(dc), (1dc, ch3, 2dc) in chsp, ch5, dc3tog, (ch3, 1dc in chsp, ch3, dc3tog)  repeat 4 times, ch5 *(2dc, ch3, 2dc) in next chsp, ch5, dc3tog, (ch3, 1dc in chsp, ch3, dc3tog) repeat 4 times, ch5 * repeat from * to * till end of row, close the round with an invisible join in 3rd ch from beg   

Cut yarn and fasten off with invisible join and wave all ends in.

Cut yarn and fasten off.

And voila! You made a BEAUTIFUL CROCHET TABLE PLACE MAT.
