Crochet Snow-White Hooded Scarf - An elegant scarf made from cozy Polar yarn
Hello My Crochet Friends! Do you love projects that practically grow under your hands and look absolutely stunning when finished? This fluffy hooded scarf is exactly the kind of piece you’ll want to snuggle into the moment it comes off the hook! It is the perfect combination of style and a warm embrace that simply belongs in your wardrobe.
This fluffy hooded scarf is crocheted in one piece from end to end and is designed for maximum comfort – it keeps you warm as a hood in freezing weather and serves as a casual, elegant shoulder accessory when the sun comes out. I used modern Polar chenille yarn, which gives the model its flair and incredible softness.
The scarf features a simple yet effective pattern of double crochet stitches with increases and decreases. Since it is crocheted in one piece, there is no need for complex joining. The pattern is designed for a women's size S, but you can easily adjust it for a child's version or a larger adult size. You will only need 2.5 skeins for this project, making it a quick and affordable piece that is absolutely perfect for beginners!
The foundation of this model is refined simplicity. The entire scarf is crocheted as one continuous piece, meaning you don't have to worry about any additional sewing of the hood or complex joining of parts. We start from one tip, gradually increase to the main hood section, and then symmetrically decrease towards the second tip.
Key Design Elements:
Tip-to-Tip Shaping: Thanks to this technique, the scarf has a beautiful draped shape and sits naturally on the shoulders.
Integrated Hood: The hood flows seamlessly from the body of the scarf. It is deep enough to protect you from the wind, yet light enough that it won't pull the scarf backward when worn down.
Airy Texture: Using double crochet stitches in combination with the fluffy Polar yarn creates a dense yet pliable fabric that is non-scratchy and incredibly pleasant to the touch.
Versatility: Thanks to its geometric design, you can wear the scarf traditionally wrapped around your neck or let it drape freely as an elegant hooded vest.

Working Tips and Preparation
Before you dive into the first stitches, review these tips to make working with fluffy yarn easier:
Tension and Yarn Guiding: Chenille yarns (like Polar) require a lighter touch. Tighten your stitches evenly, but not too firmly, so the scarf maintains its fluffiness and drape. If you tend to crochet tightly, don't be afraid to use a hook half a size larger.
Counting Rows and Stitches: In darker shades or fuzzy yarns, stitches can be harder to find. I recommend using stitch markers at the beginning and end of every row to ensure you aren't accidentally adding or missing stitches at the edges.
Symmetry and Marking: To ensure both ends of your scarf are identical, I recommend marking the rows where you increased or decreased with a colored stitch marker or a scrap piece of different yarn. When crocheting the second half (the decreasing side), you will have a clear overview of whether your row and stitch counts perfectly match the beginning.
Sizing Adjustments
The pattern is written for size S. If you prefer a wider scarf, simply add more rows during the increasing phase. For a child’s size, begin the decreasing phase earlier.
Keep in mind that adjusting the size will also change the yarn requirements.
Consider Before You Start:
Think about the length of the ends (the tails). If you want a longer scarf for wrapping around your neck, add extra rows in the straight sections before and after the hood.
Securing Yarn Ends:
When working with chenille yarns, I recommend securing the yarn ends with a small knot when weaving them in, or sewing them down with regular sewing thread in a matching color to prevent them from slipping out over time.
Scarf Edges
Important note regarding the edges: At the beginning of each row, we crochet 2 chain stitches, which count as the first double crochet in this pattern. This ensures the edges of the scarf remain straight and do not ripple.
How to Decrease (dc2tog – double crochet two together):
- Yarn over, insert the hook into the next stitch, and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook).
- Yarn over and pull through the first two loops (2 loops on hook).
- Important: Do not finish the stitch! Yarn over again and insert the hook into the next stitch.
- Pull up a loop (4 loops on hook).
- Yarn over and pull through the first two loops (3 loops on hook).
- Yarn over one last time and pull through all three remaining loops on the hook.
Stitch Placement: Between the Stitches
To make the scarf as fluffy as possible and to help the work go quickly, we will not be crocheting into the traditional top loops of the stitches. Instead, we will work the double crochets into the spaces between the stitches from the previous row.
This technique has two major advantages:
- Clarity: It is difficult to find the top loops in fuzzy yarn, but you can feel the spaces between the stitches even with your eyes closed.
- Texture: This gives the scarf a beautifully regular appearance and makes it even softer and more pliable.
Congratulations! You have just finished your unique, fluffy hooded scarf. Not only will it provide you with unbeatable warmth, but thanks to its original construction, it is sure to become your most beloved and stylish accessory from autumn through spring.
Try out many different ways to wear it—from a casual drape over the shoulders to an elegant wrap around the neck to create a snood—and enjoy the admiration you are guaranteed to receive!
