Crochet Sheath Dress Flora Cake with Butterflies and Flowers

2023-07-07

Hello My Crochet Friends!

Today I would like to share my new crochet pattern: an amazing crochet sheath dress. It's beautifully elegant and it is easily adaptable to any size.

The dress has an airy checkerboard pattern with butterfly stitch at the bottom and cute flowers stitch in the middle of the dress at waist level.

img_7969.jpeg
The pattern is created for more experienced or advanced beginners.

img_8041--1-.jpeg

A dress perfect not only for summer, but can also be worn with a skirt or T-shirt and with leggings all year round, to school and for more festive events, to the theater, to openings, concerts or birthdays and parties.

The dress has an easy construction, it is crocheted from bottom up and gradually decreasing.

It can be adjusted to any size very easily, in the pattern I use single and double crochets, trebles and chains.

img_7968.jpeg

The pattern is for 10-years old girls. However, there are directions on increasing and decreasing the size.

The entire dress is only one piece as its crocheted in the round from the bottom up and there isn’t any extra seaming to join the dress together.

The pattern is available here below for free. It comes with a video guide as well.

Special stitches: CLUSTER STITCH

Although any cluster stitch is a more intermediate level stitch, once you know the basics of crochet, it's easy to learn. There are several variations of cluster stitch, but they all come together the same way. To make a crochet cluster, you start a basic crochet stitch like double crochet or treble, but you don't complete the stitch. Then you make several more partial crochet stitches all in the same stitch base. Finally, with several active stitches on your hook, you do one final yarn over and draw it through all the loops.

3 DC CLUSTER: YO, insert hook in space, YO, draw up a loop, YO, draw through 2 loops. (2 loops left on hook) YO, insert hook back into same space, YO, draw up a loop, YO, draw through 2 loops. (3 loops left on hook) YO, insert hook back into same space, YO, draw up a loop, YO, draw through 2 loops. (4 loops left on hook) YO and draw through all 4 loops.

3 TR CLUSTER: YO twice, insert hook in space, YO, draw up a loop, YO, draw up a loop, YO, draw through 2 loops. (2 loops left on hook) YO twice, insert hook back into same space, YO, draw up a loop, YO, draw up a loop, YO, draw through 2 loops. (3 loops left on hook) YO, insert hook back into same space, YO, draw up a loop, YO, draw up a loop, YO, draw through 2 loops. (4 loops left on hook) YO and draw through all 4 loops.

More about Butterfly stitch:

Pattern Notes
1) Before you start take a body measurement, waist circumference and a bust circumference measurement. I would also recommend measuring the bottom circumference of the skirt and the length of the body and the length to the knees, or how long you want the dress to be.

2) This pattern is for 10years old girls size but you can changed to bigger size by making more or less chains of the foundation chain. Remember that when making your dress bigger you will need more yarn.

img_7966.jpeg

3) I started the dress with 48 loops. For one butterfly pattern, it is necessary to have at least 5 loops. If you want the butterflies to be further apart, crochet more loops. There are 6 butterflies on the pattern and I crocheted 8 loops per butterfly,  in total 48 loops.

4) This dress is created from the bottom up so the body and skirt length/width are customizable.

I suggest trying on the dress at the end of the ‘SKIRT, BODY/WAIST’ and ‘TOP instructions. You can add or remove rounds after each stage to customize fit.

5) The dress is symmetrical.

6) The entire dress is only one piece as its crocheted in the rounds and there isn’t any extra seaming to join the dress together.

7) Instructions between two asterisks should be repeated for the remainder of the round

8) The 3chains at the beginning of the row count as a double crochet, the 4chains at the beginning of a row count as a treble when crocheting a flower leaf.

img_8070--1-.jpeg

9) Measurement:

Top circumference: 64 cm / 25 inches

Length of part with hdc: 8 cm / 3 inch

Length of the part with the flower pattern: 28 cm / 11 inch

Skirt length: 30 cm / 11.7 inch

Dress length: 66 cm / 25.5 inch

Waist circumference: 58 cm / 22.6 inch

Bottom skirt circumference: 90 cm / 35 inch

Stripe length: 24 cm / 9.4 inch

Stripe width: 3 cm / 1.7 inch

*Measurements are taken from the garment lying flat, before the yarn has stretched out/dropped.
I suggest trying on the top. The corners markers should meet underneath your arms on both sides. The top should fit over your bust.
