Instructions & Tips for Success
Size Adjustment:
The pattern is written for a standard size 38 (M). However, you can easily adjust it to any figure—from children's sizes to adult XL—by changing the number of initial rows in the waistband and the increases in the yoke.
Construction:
Crocheted as one seamless piece from the top down for maximum comfort.
The Swatch (Gauge):
I recommend crocheting a small swatch of the filet diamond pattern (the first 15 rows with 3 increases). Every crafter’s tension is different; a swatch ensures your skirt won't be too stiff or too loose.
Measuring as You Go:
Try the skirt on regularly. Ensure the waistband sits where you want it and the yoke increases follow your curves. The number of diamond pattern repeats determines if you'll have a playful mini, an elegant midi, or a majestic maxi skirt.
Waistband Variants:
1. Classic Ribbing: Worked in sc in back loops only. It’s naturally elastic. I recommend threading a thin elastic cord through for extra stability.
2. Waistband Casing: Worked at double the height, folded over, and seamed to create a tunnel for a wide elastic (approx. 2 cm) or a decorative drawstring.
3. Crocheting into Elastic: A professional method where the first row of the yoke is worked directly into a wide, perforated elastic band.
Styling & Finishing:
- Transparency: For a natural look, use a nude-colored slip. For a bold look, use a contrasting slip to make the diamonds "pop."
- Blocking: Essential! After finishing, soak the skirt in lukewarm water, gently press in a towel (do not wring!), and dry flat. The "diamonds and flowers" will fully bloom, and the skirt will achieve its final drape.
Pro Tips for a Professional Look:
- Invisible Seam: Join rows with a sl st into the 3rd ch. Pull the sl st tight to create a thin, nearly invisible line.
- The Hook Trick: To achieve a natural flare without complex increasing, simply switch to a 0.5 mm larger hook after completing each full diamond block.
- Example: Waist/Yoke (3mm) 1st Diamond block (3.5 mm) Floral section (4 mm).
