I present to you a pattern for a crocheted summer bag made of Raffiana yarn (artificial paper raffia). The bag is designed as an airy and spacious model that comfortably holds a towel, swimwear, a water bottle, and a snack. The construction of the bag is based on crocheting two identical pieces from the center, which are then joined together by crocheting, and complemented by a practical strap and a wide-opening top.
A combination of colors can be used during creation. In my pattern, the bag is crafted in a two-color design with a primary purple color and a complementary white color, with the colors alternating by rows. The airiness is ensured by an openwork pattern. The model is completely unlined, yet thanks to the firmness of the material, it holds its shape wonderfully and is suitable for everyday wear to the water or into the city.
The pattern is designed as universal, and thanks to crocheting from the center, the dimensions can be easily adjusted to individual needs.

Yarn consumption for the bag: 2/3 of a ball
Size: universal
Crochet hook: 3.0 - 3.5 mm
Scissors, yarn needle, stitch markers
Construction: Two circular pieces
The bag consists of three main parts:
two identical circular pieces (base crocheted from the center)
joining and the perimeter of the bag body
top opening and strap
I crocheted the entire bag to be as airy, open, and truly practical for wearing to the water or into the city as possible.
The basic circular pieces and the body of the bag are openwork.
For crocheting them, I used double crochets, single crochets, and chain stitches, which ensures pleasant breathability while maintaining the stability of the pattern.
On the other hand, the top opening is firm, designed so that the bag opens comfortably and you have a clear overview of everything and all your gear at hand.
The bag is very packable – when empty, you can easily fold it into a smaller luggage.
The pattern is really easy and absolutely suitable even for beginners.
I do not use any lining for the bag – Raffiana is firm enough that the bag holds its shape on its own, exactly as it should!
The pattern below is prepared in a universal size that comfortably fits a towel, swimwear, water bottle, and a snack.
However, you can easily adjust the size to be smaller or larger – whether according to your own needs or the amount of things you carry with you – by simply modifying the number of stitches and rows.
Recommendations on how to customize the bag can be found in the instructions.
I crocheted the bag using two colors of yarn (primary purple and complementary white, alternating by rows), but of course, you can also create it from a single-color yarn, or go wild and crochet it in any colors you like, exactly according to your imagination!
Crocheting starts from the center of both circular pieces, which are then joined together by crocheting, giving you a clear overview of the process.
I believe that you too will be thrilled with the result and will enjoy summer with a bag in colors you choose yourselves!
And how to make it? We start crocheting each of the two identical bag pieces from the center and smoothly expand it into the desired circular shape.
Once we have both pieces finished, we move on to joining them together and crocheting the top opening and the strape.
The entire bag is designed to hold its shape well, be spacious, and comfortable to carry.
- Circle: diameter 38 cm (approx. 15 inches)
- Opening: 13 cm (approx. 5 inches)
- Seam / Joining: 3 cm (approx. 1.2 inches)
- Strap length: 90 cm (approx. 35.5 inches)
- Width: 3.5 cm (approx. 1.4 inches)
Measurements are taken with the item laid flat, before the yarn stretches or gives.
Finishing tip: With artificial raffia, it is recommended to secure the end of the yarn with a drop of fabric glue so that it doesn't unravel over time.
