Crochet EASY Cardigan Coat with hidden pockets

2023-04-14

Hello my crochet Friends!

Spring is here, but winter is not giving up yet, sometimes cold days surprise us, but I already have a spring-autumn cardigan coat ready.

img_0375.jpeg

I don't know about you, I love these spring days, it's cooler in the morning and it's nice and warm in the afternoon, so I'm wearing warmer sweaters, cardigans and ponchos.

In this my new video tutorial, I would like to share with you a cardigan coat in a beautiful dark pink color in a classic simple pattern with hidden pockets. The coat is rather elegant, and thanks to the amazing cosy Papatya EASY KNIT yarn, it is wonderfully warm and soft, very pleasant to wear.

img_0418.jpeg

If you're looking for an easy crochet cardigan coat hip length with an easy pattern and simple construction for beginners, then you've come to the right place.

The EASY KNIT coat looks very interesting and elegant, this time I chose a more expressive dark pink color. It is beautifully pleasant, soft and I think it is easier to crochet than you would might think.

It's also very easy to size it up or down, so you'll be able to easily crochet a coat for anyone who wants such a great, elegant piece for Spring or Fall!

This crocheted cardigan is made from the wonderful PAPATYA EASY KNIT yarn - a very soft acrylic yarn with a mixture of wool.

Crochet cardigans are on my annual crochet list!

I hope you will enjoy crocheting and wearing this elegant coat throughout the spring season and then again in late summer and fall when the weather is cooler.

The cardigan coat has an easy construction, it has a basic shape made with 3 rectangles - 2 front panels and 1 back panel, the sleeves are also long rectangles directly crocheted onto the cardigan, it's very easy to resize.

img_0394.jpeg

The cardigan has 2 hidden pockets on the sides, which fit beautifully into the chosen pattern of long columns.

The pattern is made up with double crochet stitches and front post doubles, there is a nice ribbing edge around the front panels.

In the instructions below, you will the written pattern for free for the women's M size, but you can easily change and size it up or down - lengthen, widen or shorten or narrow it. There is no special shaping in the instructions, so it is absolutely ideal for very beginners.

I hope we have a wonderful spring time ahead, so let's get started!

PATTERN NOTES

1) Before you start take a measurement, I would recommend to determine the length of your coat. If you want to have your coat longer, make a longer foundation chain at the beginning of front / back panel. If you want to have your coat shorter, make a shorter foundation chain at the beginning of front / back panel.

2) This pattern is for Medium Woman size, but you can easily adapt to a smaller size or bigger size just by reducing or increasing the number of chains and rows for the Coat and as well as making less or more chains in the basic chain.

3) A ch1 at beg of the row DOESN'T count as a stitch.

4) A ch3 at beg of the row/round COUNT as a stitch.

4) The Cardigan Coat measures:

front panel
length: 64 cm / width 20 cm

back panel
length: 64 cm / width 49 cm

sleeve
length: 47 cm / width 17 cm
armhole: 23 cm

ribbing edge: 10 cm

*Measurements are taken from the garment lying flat, before the yarn has stretched out/dropped.

5) The Cardigan is worked in 4 basic pieces:

A) front panel/s
B) back panel
C) sleeve/s
D) ribbing edge

REPEAT THE INSTRUCTION FOR SLEEVE AND MAKE SLEEVE ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE.

img_0341.jpeg

BOTTOM EDGE

Make one row of single crochet stitches around the bottom edge.
Work single crochets evenly. I would recommend you to work 2 sc in each double crochet/ch3.

img_0433.jpeg

RIBBING EDGE AROUND THE FRONT PANELS

Don’t cut the yarn, continue crocheting with the same yarn and crochet hook.
Start to work in front panel corner.
Work from down top, around the back panels rows as well and then top down till end of the second fron panel.

Ch1 at beg doesn’t count as a stitch.

Work in rows.
Turn your work.

Crochet hook 8 mm.

Chain 8ch

To have the ribbing longer, chain more chains. To have the ribbing shorter, chain less chains.

R1: ch1, 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1sc in next 7ch, 1 sl st in next 2 stitches on the front panel, turn (8sc + 2 sl st)

R2: ch1, skip 2 sl st, 1sc in next 8st BLO till end of row, turn (8sc)

R3: ch1, 1sc in next 8st, po in next 2st on the front panel, turn (8sc + 2 sl st)

R4: ch1, skip 2 sl st, 1sc in next 8st BLO till end of row, turn (8sc)

Repeat rows R3 and R4 till you reach the top of the coat, the back panel. Work slip stitches evenly around the back panel, I would recomend you to work 3 slip stiches in one double crochet.

Then repeat rows R3 and R4 till end of the front panel.
