This pattern is made for very beginners - only a basic skill level is required to make it. If you don't understand any of my instructions, don't worry I am here for you - enter the comments at the end of this post.

It is an oversized cardigan so it is very loose fitting. If you would like a more classic fit, you may consider going down a size.

Cocoon Cardigan Construction
The main body of this cardigan is created from a SQUARE, which you will fold inwards to create the armholes.

Add sleeves and a collar, and you’re done!

And I absolutely love these FALL colors - I am so happy how it turned out!

Cocoon Shrug Cardigan Construction
The main body of this cardigan is created from a SQUARE, which is worked as follows:
1. Crochet a square and rotate so that you are looking at it as a diamond shape.

2. At left and right sides, fold top and bottom corners inwards so that they meet in the middle.

3. Create armholes by seaming edges where they meet.

3. Work sleeves and collar.

4. The direction shown are for S size but can be easily converted into bigger size or smaller size – just measure your Square bigger or smaller.

Growing It Larger
Now it is easy to grow the square larger. With each round, you will have your bigger. Keep adding them to grow the Square as big as you want.

Measurement of one row / one side of my square:
36 inch (3 feet) x 36 inch / 92x92 cm

Time to join your Cardigan:

ARMHOLES

Directions: Lay SQUARE flat with RS facing you. On the left hand side, fold the top and bottom corners towards the middle of the square so that they touch. Repeat on the right hand side. Marrying the corners.
You will now begin to join the Cardigan by slip stitching 2 sides.
Work on WS facing you. Start seaming the sides / corners - the left and right sides - seam the edges and using slip stitching seam 10 3-dc groups together. Leave a gap of approx rows on either side for the armholes. The other sides are to be left open.
Slip stitching: Start slip stitching from the corner, join st to st by sl st (COUNT chain space as a stitch!)
, make sure the rows are aligned, join first 10 groups of 3dc together, leave 10 groups of 3dc open for the arm hole. Then continue crocheting the sleeve around the arm hole.

Use 4mm crochet hook from R3 till R5

Repeat R2 till you have 5 rows. Close the border with invisible ending.

Fasten off and repeat the same for the second sleeve on the opposite side.
Fasten off. Weave in all ends.

img_9513.jpeg

With the Cardigan still folded, grab the middle of the long side and open it.
You will now add a border to your neckline opening.

COLLAR

Looking at the front of the cardigan. Find the armhole seam line on the left hand side. Begin working from the joining.
Rejoin the yarn.
