2023-01-26

Hello My Crochet Friends!

img_1232.jpeg

The real winter is here in and it’s time to make all the warm and cozy things. I don’t know about you, but I am often cold so I love having different things to snuggle up in.

img_6994.jpeg

You know me. I am a poncho lover. I love to crochet ponchos all the time as they are an extremely versatile clothing item, they are perfect for almost any season and for all kinds of occasions. You can wear ponchos in summers if you want to wear something cool, and in winters, these are a warm and comfortable alternative to other clothing items. Making crochet ponchos helps you to create the designs and styles.

In this my new pattern, I wanted to share with you my Granny Poncho with a cosy Neckwarmer.

img_1136.jpeg

This TURTLENECK PONCHO is made with soft wool-acrylic yarn, it is cosy, pleasant and warm!

I chose cream color as a main color and I love to add some complementary color as well, so I chose the brown color for this lovely poncho. The texture on this Warm TURTLENECK PONCHO is created using Granny stitch.

I hope you will enjoy making and wearing this crochet cosy TURTLENECK PONCHO through the whole cool-weather season.

img_1157.jpeg

Because of the way the TURTLENECK PONCHO is constructed, it is very easy to resize. I am including Women XS size / teenage girls size and you can easily change the sizing by making the poncho longer or shorter.
It is crocheted as a one piece from the top to the bottom, starting with the cosy
TURTLENECK.

It's a fantastic piece for yourself or as a gift. Try this wonderful bulky yarn to make a great piece for yourself or for your friends & family!

img_6838.jpeg

3) A ch1 at beg of the round DOESN'T count as a stitch throughout.

4) The TURTLENECK PONCHO measures:

The TURTLENECK is 19.5 inch / 50 cm wide (circumference)
The TURTLENECK is 13.6 inch / 35 cm long

The PONCHO is: 20 inch / 52cm long

*Measurements are taken from the garment lying flat, before the yarn has stretched out/dropped.

CROCHET TURTLENECK CREAM GRANNY PONCHO

THE WRITTEN PATTERN

TURTLENECK
ch1 at the beginning of row don't count as a stitch.

Work in rows, turn your work when your finish row

Pick up the 8.00 mm crochet hook and let’s make a chain crochet foundation.

img_6937.jpeg

Color A

Ch30 (33 cm / 13 inch)

R1: Ch1, 1sc in 2nd chain from the hook, 1sc in each ch across, turn (30 sc)

R2: ch1 (don't count as a st), 1 sc in each st BLO till end of row, turn (30 sc)

R3 = repeat R2

Make row 44 rows in total or as many as you wish.

You made a rectangle 19.5 inch / 50 cm (longer side) x  13 inch / 33 cm (shorter side)

Don't fasten off, we will continue with a working yarn to join the rectangle to create a turtleneck tunnel.

img_6831.jpeg

Time to join TURTLENECK:

Directions: Fold your work in half with wrong side facing out.

Fold the rectangle over the shorter side, use the working yarn from beg.

You will now begin to join the rectangle by slip stitching the short sides.

The longer sides are to be left open.

Start slip stitching from the joined corners, join st to st by sl st, make sure the rows are aligned, join 30 stitches.

You will now add a row of slip stitches around the turtleneck, finish the row with a slip stitch in the 1st stitch.

Don't fasten off, we will continue with a working yarn to make a poncho.

img_6836.jpeg

The PONCHO

Use crochet hook 8 mm and the same yarn.
Work in closed rounds - close the round with a slip stitch in 1st stitch at the beginning.

Begin working from the slip stitches joining.

img_1134.jpeg

R1: Ch1, 1dc in each st around, join the round with a sl st in 1st ch at beg (44 dc)

Place a stitch marker in 23nd stitch (44 / 2 = 23 + 1)

If you make your turtleneck wider or narrower, place a stitch marker in the stitch in half of the round.
Example: 46 stitches around / 2 = 23 + 1. Place the marker on 24th stitch.

Example: 38 stitches around / 2 = 19 + 1. Place the marker on 20th stitch.

img_6998.jpeg

R2: ch1 (don't count as a st), 3dc in first st, ch1, sk 1 st *3dc in next st, ch1, sk 1* rep from * to * till half of your work, in 23rd stitch place a group: 3dc + ch1 + 3dc, place a stitch marker in ch1sp between 3dc and 3dc in this group

then continue *3dc in next st, ch1, sk 1* rep from * to * till end of row, place 3 dc in first st and ch1, join the round with a sl st in 1st  st at beg

img_1227.jpeg

R3: ch1 (don't count as a st), 3dc in last ch1sp, ch1 *3dc in next ch1sp, ch1* rep from * to * till half of your work (there is a marker already placed), in ch1sp place a group: 3dc + ch1 + 3dc, remove the marker and place it in just made ch1sp between 3d and 3dc in this group

then continue *3dc in next ch1sp, 1řo* rep from * to * till end of row, place 3 dc in first ch1sp and ch1, join the round with a sl st in 1st  st at beg

Repeat round R3.

You can change the colors at the bottom edge of your poncho.

I used brown color.

Color B: R11 and R13

Make 14 rounds or as many as you wish to have your PONCHO long and wide.

Don't fasten off, we will continue with a working yarn to make a BORDER.

img_6992.jpeg

Then continue crocheting the BORDER
Color A

R2: ch1 (don't count as a st), skip 2 sl st, 1 sc in next 4 st BLO till end of row, turn (4sc)

R4: ch1 (don't count as a st), skip 2 sl st, 1 sc in next 4 st BLO till end of row, turn (4sc)

R5: ch1 (don't count as a st), 1sc in next 4 st, sl st in 2 next st of PONCHO's last row, turn (4sc + 2sl sl)

R6: ch1 (don't count as a st), skip 2 sl st, 1 sc in next 4 st BLO till end of row, turn (4sc)
