Braided Cable Ear Warmer Directions
For this women/teenage size you will need:
Tulip Big - 100% acryl (antipilling), 100g / 72m – 1 skein
A soft and cozy yarn, bulky yarn.
The crochet hook 5.0 mm.
This Headband is made as a one panel (crocheted as a one part) and sew in the middle.
Size: bellow there is a pattern for woman size, size M, the head measurement 22.05 inch / 56 cm. Size M this can easily be adapted to a smaller size or bigger size just by reducing or increasing the number of rows.
Difficulty Level: Level 2 – Advanced Beginners
SlSt – slip stitch
CH/s – chain/s
SC – single crochet
DC - double crochet
TR - tripple crochet
FP - front post
SK - skip
T - turn
ST/s - stitch(es)
REP - repeat
YO – yarn over
LP/S - loop(s)
Special stitches used: front post double crochet (fpdc) and front post triple crochet (fptr)
Front and back post crochet stitches are used to create wonderful texture in crochet. Instead of making your stitch through the loops at the top of the stitch, you make it around the stitch. Everything else stays the same. The most challenging things about crochet post stitches are knowing where and how to insert the hook. There are front post stitches and back post stitches.
For front post double crochet stitches (fpdc): yarn over, insert your hook from front to back then from back to front around post of stitch indicated, yarn over, pull through stitch, then finish your double crochet as normal, yarn over, pull through 2 lps, yarn over, pull through last 2 lps
For front post triple crochet stitches (fptr): yarn over twice, insert your hook from front to back then from back to front around post of stitch indicated, yarn over, pull through stitch, then finish your triple crochet as normal, yarn over, pull through 2 lps, yarn over, pull through 2 lps, yarn over, pull through last 2 lps
Pattern notes:
1) Before you start take a measurement of your head. Crochet the number of rows until you reach the measurement taken.
2) Close attention paid to increases at the beginning and end of each row are imperative.
3) Each row of the headband always has the same number of stitches
4) The direction shown are for M size but can be easily converted into bigger size or smaller size – just by reducing or increasing the number of rows.
5) A Ch 2 at beg of every od row (the row with cable stitch) counts as a stitch.
6) a ch 1 at beg of every even row (the row with sc only) doesn't count as sc.
7) Each row ends with 1sc placed in last st
WOMAN SIZE
Pick up the 5.0 mm crochet hook and let’s make a slip knock.
Make a slip knot and ch10
R1: ch1 (don't count it as a st), 1 sc in each ch across (10sc) turn
R2: ch1, 1 sc in ech st across (10 sc) t
Now we create the base for braided cable pattern:
R3: ch2, 1 fpdc around next 2 sc 1 row below (around sc made in R1), 1sc in next st (skip 2 sc from R2)
1 fpdc around next 2 sc 1 row below (around sc made in R1), 1sc in next st (skip 2 sc from R2)
1 fpdc around next 2 sc 1 row below (around sc made in R1), 1sc in next st = last st (skip 2 sc from R2), turn
We created 3 pairs of fpdc.
R4 = R2: ch1, 1 sc in ech st across (10 sc) t
R5: ch2, sk 3 st, 1 fptr around next 2 fpdc (1 row below), 1sc in third sk st,
1 fptr around first sk fpdc (1 row below), 1 fptr around second sk fpdc (1 row below), 1sc in next st,
1 fpdc around next 2 fpdc, 1sc in last st, t
R6 = R2: ch1, 1 sc in ech st across (10 sc) t
R7: ch2, 1 fpdc around next 2 fptr (1 row below), 1 sc in next st (sk 2 sc from R6),
sk 3 st, 1 fptr around next 2 fpdc (1 row below), 1 sc in third sk st,
insert the hook under just finished pair of fptr, 1 fptr around first sk fptr and 1 fptr around second sk fptr, 1 sc in last st, t
You make a lovely braided cable effect! From now you will just repeat rows :)
R8 = R2: ch1, 1 sc in ech st across (10 sc) t
R9 = R5: ch2, sk 3 st, 1 fptr around next 2 fptr (1 row below), 1sc in third sk sc, 1 fptr around first sk fpdc (1 row below), 1 fptr around second sk fpdc (1 row below), 1sc in next st, 1 fpdc around next 2 fptr, 1sc in last st, t
R10 = R2: ch1, 1 sc in ech st across (10 sc) t
R11 = R7: ch2, 1 fpdc around next 2 fptr (1 row below), 1 sc in next st, sk 3 st, 1 fptr around next 2 fpdc (1 row below), 1 sc in third sk st,
insert the hook under just finished pair of fptr, 1 fptr around first sk fptr and 1 fptr around second sk fptr, 1 sc in last st,
R10 = R2: ch1, 1 sc in ech st across (10 sc) t
R13 = R5
R14 = R2
R15 = R7
R16 = R2
Keep continue crocheting till you have desired length of your headband. I made 50 rows in total.
HOW TO JOIN THE HEADBAND
Turn your work, the wrong side facing up. Bring the ends of the headband together. It should have the edges lined up. Using the long tail from above make slip stitches - one slip stitch into each stitch. Make 10 slip stitches. End off yarn, weave in ends. Turn your headband the right side out and smooth down.
CREATE THE STRING around the seam.
You can wrap up the headband several times in the middle around the seam with the yarn or you can create a small string.
Make a slip know, ch10+ch1, turn and 1 sc in ech ch across (10 sc). Wrap just created string around the seam and join both ends.
THE FINAL SIZE MEASUREMENT:
The headband 3,94 inch / 10 cm high, 20.87 inch / 53 cm long around the head.
