They make beautiful catch-all areas for your stuff. You can also crochet baskets for holidays and to give as gifts.

This pattern is made for beginners. If you don't understand any of my instructions, don't worry I am here for you - enter the comments at the end of this post.
 
 

Rope yarn is one of the best choices for making crochet baskets of any size. The thickness of the yarn makes that the baskets can easily stand up straight without caving in on the sides. 
 
This pattern teaches you how to use knit like effect using waistcoat stitches. 
You can create baskets of various sizes.

BASKET DIRECTIONS 

This Basket is very easy and quick to make.
The pattern uses only basic crochet stitches - single crochets!
The pattern was made with Bobbiny 5 mm 
Crochet hook: 8.00 mm.

Difficulty Level: Level 1 – Easy, for beginners

US crochet term: 
SlSt – slip stitch 
CH/s – chain/s 
SC - single crochet
SK - skip
T - turn
ST/s - stitch(es)
REP - repeat 
 
 
 
PATTERN NOTES

1) A ch1 at begging of round doesn't count as a stitch throughout. 
2) The project is crochet as a circle. 
3)  The bigger Basket measures  inches / 17 cm (circle), 2.36 inch / 6 cm (high)
The smaller Basket measures  inches / 10 cm (circle),  inch / 4 cm (high)
 
4) You need 3 colours: 
colour A = gray 
colour B = white
colour C = old pink
 
5) You can add some accessories: a button, a label, a bowl etc. to make your baskets more attractive 
 
 
THE WRITTEN PATTERN

BIGGER BASKET

Use colour A

Make a magic ring

ch1 at the beginning doesn't work as a st

R1: ch1, 8 sc 

R2, ch1, 2sc in each st (16 sc)

R3: ch1, rep 2sc in one st, 1 sc in next st * repeat from * to * till end of round, sl st in ch1 from beg to join round (24 sc)

R4: ch1, rep 2sc in one st, 1 sc in next 2 st * repeat from * to * till end of round, sl st in ch1 from beg to join round (32 sc)

R5: ch1, rep 2 sc in one st, 1 sc in next 3 st * repeat from * to * till end of round, sl st in ch1 from beg to join round (40 sc)

Cut the yarn, fasten off and wave all ends in.

Colour B

R6: start at any stitch, make sl st in each st around, place sl st in 2nd loop only, sl st in ch1 from beg to join round  (40sl st)

R7: ch1, 1sc in each sc from R5 placed in 2nd loop, sl st in ch1 from beg to join round (colour A) (40 sc)

R8: ch1, 1 center single crochet / waistcoat stitch in each st around, sl st in ch1 from beg to join round  (40 center sc)

R9, R10 = R8

Cut the yarn, fasten off and wave all ends in.

Use colour A

R11: sl stitching around

Cut the yarn, fasten off and wave all ends in.

 

Measurement: 3.15 inch / 6 cm high, 6.69 inch / 17cm circle

SMALL BASKET
 

Use colour C

Make a magic ring

ch1 at the beginning doesn't work as a st

R1: ch1, 8 sc 

R2, ch1, 2sc in each st (16 sc)

R3: ch1, rep 2sc in one st, 1 sc in next st * repeat from * to * till end of round, sl st in ch1 from beg to join round (24 sc)

Cut the yarn, fasten off and wave all ends in.

 

Colour B

R4: start at any stitch, make sl st in each st around, place sl st in 2nd loop only, sl st in ch1 from beg to join round (24 sl st)

R5: ch1, 1sc in each sc from R3 placed in 2nd loop, sl st in ch1 from beg to join round (colour A) (24 sc)

R6-R7: ch1, 1 center single crochet / waistcoat stitch in each st around, sl st in ch1 from beg to join round  (24 center sc)

Cut the yarn, fasten off and wave all ends in.

 

Use colour C

R8: sl stitching around

 

Cut the yarn, fasten off and wave all ends in.

 

Measurement: 1.57 inch / 4cm high, 3.94 inch / 10 cm circle
