Crochet EASY Puff NeckWarmer Cowl

2021-11-18

I like crochet neck warmers, this crochet neck warmer is so easy to crochet and easy to wear – just slip it over your head and you are warm and cosy straight away with no ends to tuck in.

I love this wonderful yarn color and quality, it is not too thick, just the right thickness to show off some texture. The texture on this cowl is created using half double crochets and puff stitches.

This 3D crochet pattern with knit-like stitches and puffs looks amazing and it is made from just a half of skein of Tosca yarn from Vlnika.
Wonderful gradients of pink, burgundy and yellow and brown-green allows the yarn to do all of the colour changing for you.

The Neck warmer gives you protection for the winds and makes your neck really safe and warm.

This Neck Warmer is a super luxurious cowl with an awesome pattern will make a great addition to your wardrobe. It is crocheted in a beautiful and relaxing puffs stitches in gorgeous and colourful soft yarn, it is both fabulous to make and wear!

I made this cowl with a conical shape, the bottom side has inches and the top side has around

This is a perfect size for women and teenage girls for a neck warmer.
The pattern has a good stretch. You can easily adjust the size to be smaller or wider by reducing the amount of chains.

Let’s get started to make this perfect pattern!

PUFFS NECK WARMER DIRECTIONS:

For this women/teenage size you will need:

YARN: Tosca from VLNIKA
100g, 290m, 100% acrylic, self stripping – 1/2 skein
The substitution: Red Heart Unforgettable, 100g/250m - 1/2 skein

The crochet hook 5.5 mm.

I used this amazing yarn for my new Cocoon Shrug Cardigan design, the square begins as a circle, so there is a beautiful mandala design and a gorgeous motif in the center of square.

PUFFS NECK WARMER SIZE:

Size: bellow there is a pattern for woman size, the head measurement 22 inch / 56 cm, this one fits perfectly to me.

The neck warmer can easily be adapted to a smaller size or bigger size just by making the starting chain longer or shorter.

Difficulty Level: Level 1 – Easy, for Beginners

US crochet term:

SlSt – slip stitch
CH/s – chain/s
SC – single crochet
HDC - half double crochet
SK - skip
T - turn
ST/s - stitch(es)
REP - repeat
YO – yarn over

Special stitches used:

PUFF STITCH

Crochet puff stitch is essentially the same as crochet bobble stitch. However, bobble stitch is worked using stitches that are double crochet or taller.

Puff stitch is worked only using half double crochet stitches. Because of the unique third loop in hdc, it must be worked slightly differently than a regular bobble. Here are the instructions for a 3 hdc puff stitch:

Yarn over and insert the hook into the stitch where you are creating your puff stitch. Yarn over again and draw through. There will be three loops on the hook.

Repeat two more times. Each time adds 2 more loops to the hook. There will be 7 loops on the hook for a 3 hdc puff stitch.

Yarn over and pull through all loops on the hook.

Chain one. This step is used to secure the top of the puff stitch closed.

HDC in 3rd loop = the 3rd loop is hidden under the back loop.

This is my favorite crochet technique and I hope it will become one of yours soon too!

Crocheting in the 3rd loop of a hdc stitch pushes the top of the stitch forward so that the front and back loops of your stitch, which normally sit at the top are now visible at the front of the stitch. It creates a horizontal ridge of “v” shapes. It’s a way of adding a knit-look texture to scarves, blankets and shawls.

Pattern Notes

1) Before you start take a measurement of your head. Crochet the number of chains until you reach the measurement taken.

2) The direction shown are for woman/teenage size 22 inch head measurement but can be easily converted into bigger size or smaller size – just by making the starting chain longer or shorter.

3) The number of chains when you start has to be a multiple of 10! I started with 100 chains. If you want to make your cowl smaller use 90 ch / bigger use 110 ch etc.

4) A Ch 2 at beg of the row DOESN'T count as one hdc throughout.

5) Cowl is worked in rounds with right side facing at all times

6) Measurement: 29 inch [74cm] bottom circumference, 19 inch [48cm] top circumference, 9.5 inch [24cm] high – size will fit to teen/adult woman
