Thanks a million, my crochet friends! Wishing you joy and color through yarn.
I truly believe in the magic of creativity.

This cowl is designed to be the perfect companion piece to the crocheted hat. I am using the same pleasant, woolly, and cozy yarn (Samba) and hook, but I have adapted the pattern so that it is less dense while still being beautifully warm.
I have played with a combination of Puff stitches and Single Crochet, which creates a lightweight yet relief-like, textured, and effective pattern. A key feature this time is the ribbing pattern made of Single Crochet Back Loop Only, which ensures the set’s flexibility and coherence.
The cowl is crocheted in rows, not in the round, and the resulting rectangle is seamed along the sides in a non-traditional, contoured, and sculptural way.
This unique construction is not a classic "tunnel" but, thanks to its interesting shaping and texture, it can be worn in multiple ways, making it not only a beautiful colorful accessory but also a versatile and warm companion.
Due to the simple pattern repeat and clearly defined rows, this pattern is suitable even for beginners!
Crochet yourself a warm and stylish accessory that will carry you through the cold weather with elegance!
I wish you much joy with your crocheting, and I look forward to seeing photos of your colorful, cosy winter hat and an original neckwarmer cowl!

Crocheted Cowl: an accessory for the Samba hat
An elegant textured cowl with cozy wool and unique construction
Design and Construction
Direction of Crochet
The cowl is crocheted in rows, back and forth. The height of the cowl is determined by the length of the foundation chain (FC), and the circumference of the cowl is determined by the number of rows crocheted.
The Stitch Pattern
The alternation of Single Crochet (SC) and Puff Stitches creates a relief-like and voluminous texture across the entire surface of the cowl.
Ribbing
The flexible ribbing made of Single Crochet Back Loop Only is implemented in rows of each cycle, creating a stretchy and warm structure across the entire surface.
Final Seaming and The Twist
At the end, the edges of the rectangle are seamed in a non-traditional, contoured manner. Result: After seaming, an interestingly shaped cowl emerges that can be worn in various ways—loosely draped or layered.
Row Counting
Careful row counting is essential for the regular repetition of the pattern and for the accurate alignment of the edges during the final seaming.
Crochet Tension and Stretch
The stitch pattern tends to be firm. Crochet loosely to ensure the cowl is sufficiently flexible and comfortable.
Yarn Tension
Pay close attention to your yarn tension (avoid tightening). Strive to crochet with a consistent, slightly relaxed tension.
- Loose crocheting ensures the pattern will be comfortable and stretchy, and the puff texture will be fluffy and soft.
- A tension that is too loose could lead to a shapeless look, while a tension that is too tight would result in a stiff and inflexible fabric.
Before You Begin
Before you start crocheting, consider the following:
- The length of the cowl (the number of stitches in your foundation chain).
- The looseness around the neck (the total number of rows).
- Whether the cowl will be folded once or multiple times.
Size Customization
The desired width (circumference) of the cowl can be easily adjusted during the crocheting process by modifying the number of rows. Keep in mind that for a larger circumference, you will need more yarn.
