Thanks a million, my crochet friends! Wishing you joy and color through yarn.
I truly believe in the magic of creativity.

I present to you the pattern for the Marianna Lace Scarf, a project full of tenderness and romance!
This gorgeous scarf is crocheted using luxurious Marianna merino yarn. You will be thrilled with this yarn: it is pleasant, fluffy, non-itchy, and glides beautifully on the hook.
For our sample scarf, I chose a melange yarn cake with tones of pink, lavender, and cream. However, a wide palette of colors is available, from soft spring shades and tone-on-tone options to vibrant autumn hues, so there is truly something for everyone!
The stitch creates a three-dimensional, textured pattern with leaves and puff stitches, making the scarf look very gentle and elegant.
The scarf is designed as a shorter cowl/neck warmer and requires one yarn cake with a 280 m yardage. If you desire a classic long scarf, we recommend preparing two yarn cakes.
This Marianna shawl is more than just an accessory. Thanks to the luxurious merino yarn, it not only keeps you wonderfully warm but also becomes a highly elegant piece in your wardrobe. You can also crochet it as a beautiful and personalized gift that is guaranteed to delight anyone who loves delicate and romantic designs.

Marianna Lace Scarf: Textured Romance with Leaves
Scarf made of pure merino wool
Procedure and Technique
The scarf is crocheted in rows (working back and forth), starting with a Magic Ring (Magic Circle). The pattern grows symmetrically from the center of the ring.
The Stitch Pattern
The pattern is created by an airy combination of treble crochet (TR) and chain stitches (ch). This makes the scarf beautifully airy and fluffy.
The design is engineered to be symmetrical from the center, ensuring a flawless and balanced look.
The basic textured leaf pattern gradually expands. Once you complete the full initial motif and reach the desired width, you will transition to the main section of the scarf. This part repeats in a simple four-row cycle that is very easy to memorize!
Tip for Length: For a longer scarf, simply repeat this four-row cycle as needed until you reach the desired length or until you have enough yarn remaining for the finishing rows.
Cut and Silhouette
Although this is a classic scarf cut, this design does not feature sharp, straight edges. Thanks to the lace pattern and the chain edging along the sides, the scarf’s silhouette is gently rounded, which gives the entire piece a tender and very romantic look.
Size and Customization
This scarf is designed for women and girls.
Please note: Because the pattern is symmetrical from the center and crocheted mirror-style, the width of the scarf cannot be adjusted. However, you can freely extend the length to suit your preference.
Conclusion
This Marianna Scarf is more than just an accessory. Thanks to the luxurious merino yarn, it will not only keep you wonderfully warm but also become a very elegant piece in your wardrobe. You can also crochet it as a beautiful and personalized gift that is guaranteed to please anyone who loves gentle and romantic patterns.

Tension and Consistency
Watch Your Tension
Yarns containing wool or merino are quite flexible. Try to crochet with a slightly firmer tension to ensure the scarf remains both comfortable and airy. A pattern that is too loose might result in a shapeless look, while very tight tension could be too stiff.
Consistency is Key
Maintaining even tension throughout the entire project is crucial for a neat and professional-looking finished result. Strive to keep your yarn tension consistent from beginning to end.
Planning and Adjusting Length
Before You Begin
Before starting your project, I recommend deciding on the desired length of the scarf. This pattern is written for one standard size (the amount achievable with one ball of yarn).
You can easily adjust the length to be smaller or larger by modifying the number of rows you crochet in the main repeating section. Just keep in mind that you will need more yarn if you decide to make a longer scarf.

Crochet Technique
The scarf is crocheted in rows, working back and forth. You must turn your work at the end of each row so you can crochet back along the previous row.
Rules for Turning Chains (Ch)
Chain stitches (ch) are worked at the beginning of the row to achieve the correct height for the following stitches and to allow the work to be turned.
Turning Chain as a Stitch Substitute (DC and TR)
For taller stitches, the turning chain serves as a full substitute for the first stitch of the row and counts towards the total stitch count.
- For the Double Crochet (DC), chain 3 (ch 3) at the beginning of the row. These 3 ch count as the first DC.
- For the Treble Crochet (TR), chain 4 (ch 4) at the beginning of the row. These 4 ch count as the first TR.
Turning Chain that IS NOT a Stitch (Single Crochet – SC)
For the Single Crochet (SC), the chain stitch only serves the function of turning and achieving minimal height, but it does NOT substitute for the stitch itself.
- 1 chain stitch (ch 1) IS NOT a substitute for a Single Crochet.
- After working ch 1 to turn, the first Single Crochet (SC) is worked into the first stitch of the previous row (not into the turning chain).
These rules are crucial for maintaining a straight edge and ensuring the correct stitch count throughout the entire project.
Front Post Stitch (FP)
This stitch pushes the vertical post toward you, creating a raised relief stitch.
1) Yarn Over (Yo) as many times as your desired stitch requires (skip yo for single crochet/sc; yo 1x for half double crochet/hdc and double crochet/dc; yo 2x for treble crochet/tr, etc.).
2) Insert from Front to Back: Insert your hook from front to back into the space BEFORE the vertical post of the stitch from the previous row.
3) Wrap the Post: Guide the hook around the entire post and out to the front again into the space AFTER the post. The post should lie horizontally IN FRONT of your hook.
4) Yarn Over and Draw Through: Yarn over and draw a loop along the post (back to the front).
5) Complete the Stitch: Complete the stitch (e.g., sc, hdc, dc, tr) in the usual manner.
Back Post Stitch (BP)
This stitch pushes the vertical post away from you, creating a recessed indentation on the right side of the fabric.
1) Yarn Over (Yo) as many times as your desired stitch requires (skip yo for single crochet/sc; yo 1x for half double crochet/hdc and double crochet/dc; yo 2x for treble crochet/tr, etc.).
2) Insert from Back to Front: Insert your hook from back to front into the space BEFORE the vertical post of the stitch from the previous row.
3) Wrap the Post: Guide the hook around the entire post and out to the back again into the space AFTER the post. The post should lie horizontally BEHIND your hook.
4) Yarn Over and Draw Through: Yarn over and draw a loop along the post (back to the back).
5) Complete the Stitch: Complete the stitch (e.g., sc, hdc, dc, tr) in the usual manner.
Blocking (Lace Scarf with Relief Texture)
Merino responds excellently to wet blocking. The goal is to stretch the lace to open it up and reveal the beauty of the pattern, but not so aggressively that the relief elements are flattened.
1. Wet Blocking (Primary Method)
- Wet Bath: After finishing the scarf, soak it in lukewarm water and let it sit for 15–20 minutes. This will relax the fibers.
- Remove Water: Carefully remove the scarf (do not pull on it to prevent stretching), gently squeeze out the excess water (do not wring it!), then lay it flat on a clean, dry towel and roll it up. Firmly pressing the towel will remove most of the moisture.
- Pinning and Shaping: Lay the scarf out on a blocking mat or a flat, pin-able surface. Gently stretch the scarf to the desired length and width to open up the lace holes.
- Protect the Relief: When pinning, focus primarily on the edges of the scarf. Be careful in areas with the relief pattern—do not pull flatly on the center of the scarf too aggressively. The goal is to leave the relief stitches slightly "puffed up" and avoid flattening them.
2. Steam Blocking (Alternative Methods)
- Method with Pressing Cloth: The lace can also be "set" using a steam iron. Gently steam with the iron through a protective layer of cloth. Do not let the iron touch the wool directly! The steam will relax the fibers, allowing you to shape the scarf with your fingers into the desired form.
- Non-Contact Steaming Method: The lace can also be "set" using gentle non-contact steaming with an iron. Hold the iron above the surface of the scarf (do not touch it!) and use the steam to relax the fibers. Then shape it with your fingers into the desired form. This method requires great care to avoid scorching or damaging the Merino wool!
3. Final Drying: Allow the scarf to dry completely while pinned in shape (whether after wet blocking or steaming). Only remove the pins when it is bone dry to the touch.
Enjoy this romantic crocheting experience and charm everyone with your beautiful, fluffy shawl!
