Beach Summer Crop Directions

This Summer Top is easy to make and can be completed in one day. Its simplicity makes the project come alive very quickly. The pattern uses only basic crochet stitches like double, half double and single crochet – absolutely perfect for beginners!

The direction shown are for XS/S size but can be easily converted into M/L size - just adding one more square.

For this top XS/S size you will need only 1 skein of Scarlet yarn.

The pattern was made with Scarlet yarn.
Yarn: Scarlet, (100% cotton), 100g = 290m, 1mm

Recommended hook: 3-4 mm

I used hook 3.5 mm for this project.

ch 2, skip 2 st, 1 DC into the 3rd st, ch 3, sl. st. in the 3rd chain from the beg

4th row: ch 3, ch 3, then the corner: 3 DC, ch 2, 3 DC

ch 4, 1 DC, ch 3, sl. st. in the 3rd chain from the beg.

Fasten off. Well done my crochet friends! The square is done!
Then continue and repeat the pattern for 3 more squares. You can connect the squares together now or later on by sl. st.

THE BODY OF THE CROP TOP
Note: the Crop Top is crochet from the bottom up
Made DC under each chain (one side of each square counts for 20 DC)
80 DC all together, turn and continue to crochet the Body of your Crop Top.

1st row = ch 3, 1DC under each ch and into DC from the square, 79 DC, turn
2nd - 16th row make decreasing:
2nd row: 1 SC, 1 HDC, 76 DC in each st until 3 sts left, 2 DC dec, turn

3rd row: 1 SC, 1 HDC, 72 DC in each st until 3 sts left, 2 DC dec, turn

4th row: 1 SC, 1 HDC, 68 DC in each st until 3 sts left, 2 DC dec, turn

Repeat and make decreasing for the next following rows.

16th row: 1 SC, 1 HDC, 14 DC in each st until 3 sts left, 2 DC dec, turn
I made 16 rows, but you can continue the pattern row until you have the length you want to be. Fasten off and leave long tail.

croptop9.jpeg

THE TRIANGLE
Now make a "triangle" - crochet 20 DC along the square side, then continue 9 rows of DC and still make decreasing the same way but just on one side.
The same "triangle" on the left side of the square as well.
Fasten off.

croptop11.jpeg

THE STRINGS
Then make a chain of 70 chains and connect with the 70th chain by SC with the last DC of the triangle.
Then continue with simple crochets into each stitch - you will make a nice edge of the crop top.
Starting at the bottom right hand side of your crop top, simple crochets all the way up to the crop top. You will repeat the same process to the other side as well.
Continue crocheting up till you reach the last DC of the Crop top, then continue 100 chains.
Then turn and crochet 1 HDC into each chain, which means 100 HDC till you reach the Crop top again.
Continue with 14 HDC into each DC from the previous row till the end of the Crop top.
Then continue with the chain of 100 chains, turn and 100 HDC till you reach the Crop top again.
Crochet single crochets along the side.

croptop14.jpeg

Starting at the up left hand side of your crop top, single crochets all the way down.
Till you reach the end of "triangle" - now make 70 chains, turn, make HDC into each chain, which means 70 HDC.

croptop18.jpeg

Till you reach the end of the string - now DC into each chain till the end of the triangle.
Continue HDC into each chain of the string.

That it is! Weave the end. Now you know how to crochet a wonderful Summer Crop top!
