Enjoy the summer to the rhythm of waves and hot sunbeams! I present to you a pattern for a lightweight beach tunic, which is the definition of summer ease, airiness, and playful elegance. This model is designed as a stylish, light swimwear cover-up. It will give you a sense of comfort while walking on the beach, grabbing ice cream by the pool, or relaxing in the garden, all while remaining wonderfully chic.

The tunic features an open mesh (netted) pattern, which is perfect for hot summer days. It is fantastically airy and drapes beautifully thanks to its well-thought-out top-down construction from the yoke. A great advantage of this project is its versatility – you can easily adjust the length yourself to crochet a stylish top, an extended tunic, or even flowing beach dress, according to your preference.

For this model, I chose a fresh combination of white and dark blue, where the blue creates tasteful stripes in a timeless nautical style. The combination of Cottonel and Amigurumi Degrade yarns ensures that the finished piece is lightweight and very comfortable to wear directly against the skin.

Crocheting this piece is pure joy and perfect relaxation – the pattern literally grows under your hands, making the project absolutely ideal even for complete beginners. You will easily manage to finish your new beach tunic before leaving for vacation. Come and add a piece to your summer wardrobe that will make you feel simply wonderful!

Why you will love this beach Cover-up:

The "Wow!" factor – By alternating colors every two rows, the Solomon's Knots create a gorgeous intertwined diamond pattern that looks incredibly luxurious and intricate.

Perfect flowy fit – In the tutorial, I'll share a trick on how to gradually increase the loops to achieve a natural A-line cut that flatters the figure and never feels tight.

Endless variability – Both the cover-up and the skirt will look fantastic as a solid color classic, in stripes, or when you let the smooth color transitions of a gradient yarn cake stand out.

MATERIAL
Yarn:
1 cake of Cottonel (white)

and 1/2 cake of Amigurumi Degrade (dark blue)

Size: Women's S

Hook: 3.5 mm

Other supplies: Scissors, tapestry needle for weaving in loose ends, 4 stitch markers for dividing the yoke

1. Starting from the Neckline (Circular Yoke)

The entire project starts at the neck. A circular yoke is crocheted top-down in rows, gradually increasing to naturally form the upper part of the cover-up and the straps.

2. Dividing into Sections

Once the yoke reaches the correct size, lay it flat and use four stitch markers to divide it precisely into 4 sections: the front piece, the back piece, and two free openings for the arms.

3. Crocheting Individual Pieces

In this phase, you will first crochet the front piece and then the back piece, both separately, working in rows back and forth. The arm openings remain untouched, and this step creates the necessary depth for the armholes.

4. Joining at the Corners (Creating Armholes)

As soon as both individual pieces reach the sufficient length, they are joined at the corners under the arms. This definitively defines the armholes and connects the front and back of the body.

5. Completing the Body in Joined Rounds

From the joining point, you will continue crocheting the entire body all at once in joined rounds. The pattern repeats over and over without further shaping until the top, cover-up, or dress reaches your desired length.

Color Variations and Color Striping

This beach cover-up is incredibly versatile, and its final look depends purely on your imagination.

You can crochet it to perfectly match your taste and favorite colors:

  • Solid Color Classic: This highlights the elegance and the raw structure of the Solomon's Knot.
  • Multicolor or Striped: Ideal for a nautical style or cheerful summer combinations. You can alternate colors regularly (e.g., every two rows) or irregularly.
  • Gradient Yarn Cake: If you use a yarn cake with long color transitions, the pattern will create a beautiful, smooth ombré effect without the need to join new yarn.

Recommendations for a successful project:

  • Watch out for yarn stretch: A cotton-acrylic blend (such as Cottonel or Amigurumi Degrade), combined with an airy stitch pattern, tends to stretch vertically after washing and from its own weight. I recommend trying the cover-up on as you crochet and keeping in mind that it will grow a bit longer.

  • Blocking is essential: To let the loops and stitches reveal their full beauty and allow the pattern to open up perfectly, I recommend gently hand-washing the finished cover-up and letting it dry flat on a mat (blocking). Definitely do not hang it on a hanger while it is wet!

  • Stitch markers are your friend: When crocheting the body, I recommend keeping a stitch marker at the beginning of each round (right in that extended dc). The pattern is so seamless that without a marker, finding the start of the round after a few rows gets very difficult.

I hope that crocheting this cover-up brings you the ultimate summer relaxation and that you enjoy every single moment as the mesh pattern grows under your hands. It is a piece that carries the lightness of a summer breeze and true elegance. But the best moment will come when you slip the finished cover-up over your swimsuit for the first time and head to the water – you’ll see that it will make you feel absolutely divine and confident.

I wish you smooth stitching with the Solomon's Knots, may you enjoy watching the yarn transform into the diamond pattern, and above all, may this cover-up bring you joy every single summer day. I am already so excited to see your versions and color combinations, so please don't forget to share them with me! Have wonderful, sun-drenched days and happy crocheting!
