Let’s get started to make this perfect pattern!

CROCHET NEWSBOY HAT DIRECTIONS:

For this women/teenage size you will need:

LANG YARNS, Merino 50 – 100% virgin wool, merino extrafine, super-wash, 90m/100g – 2 skeins

img_0008.jpeg

The crochet hook 5.0 and 4.0 mm.

img_0953.jpeg

CROCHET NEWSBOY HAT SIZE:

Size: bellow there is a pattern for woman size, the head measurement 22 inch / 56 cm, this one fits perfectly to me.

The CROCHET NEWSBOY HAT can easily be adapted to a smaller size or bigger size.

Difficulty Level: Level 1 – Easy, for Beginners

US crochet term:

SlSt – slip stitch
CH/s – chain/s
SC – single crochet
DC - double crochet
SK - skip
T - turn
ST/s - stitch(es)
REP - repeat
YO – yarn over

img_0926.jpeg

Special stitches used:

PUFF STITCH

Crochet puff stitch is essentially the same as crochet bobble stitch. However, bobble stitch is worked using stitches that are double crochet or taller. Puff stitch is worked only using half double crochet stitches. Because of the unique third loop in hdc, it must be worked slightly differently than a regular bobble. Here are the instructions for a 3 hdc puff stitch:

Yarn over and insert the hook into the stitch where you are creating your puff stitch. Yarn over again and draw through. There will be three loops on the hook. Repeat two more times. Each time adds 2 more loops to the hook. There will be 7 loops on the hook for a 3 hdc puff stitch. Yarn over and pull through all loops on the hook. Chain one. This step is used to secure the top of the puff stitch closed.

CROCHET NEWSBOY HAT PATTERN NOTES

1) These pattern below is for adult women size, this can be easily adapted to a smaller size or bigger size just by reducing or increasing the numbers of stitches and as well as less or more numbers of rows. Remember that when making bigger hat size, you will need more yarn.

Adult Women Size:

Head measurement: 21.5 inch / 56 cm

2) This Hat is crocheted in rounds from the top down using double crochet stitches and puff stitches.

3) A Ch 3 at beg of the row counts as stitch, Ch 3 = DC

4) Work in closed rounds

5) The Brim is crocheted in rows, using slip stitches, working in back loop only.

6) A Ch 1 at beg of the row DOESN'T count as stitch

I love that CROCHET NEWSBOY HAT and many people do so, they are classic and so popular!

Cut the yarn, weave in the ends. Lay your NEWSBOY HAT the WRONG SIDE out and smooth down.

The BRIM

With your yarn and hook, work in rows, loosely.

I would recommend you to use a stitch market and to place your marker always on the middle stitch.
When you finish new row, remove marker from previous row and replace on the middle stitch just finished row.

Increase row instructions: make slip stitches to 1 st before stitch marker, make 2 stitches in it, then remove marker, slip stitch in it  (middle stitch) and replace the marker, then again 2 slip stitches in next stitch, slip stitch in each stitch across till end of row. Turn your work.

Decrease row instructions: skip 1 slip stitch before the marker, remove the marker, slip stitch in the marker stitch (middle stitch), replace the marker in the same stitch, skip next stitch, slip stitch in each st across till end of row. Turn your work.

No increase / decrease: slip stitch to the marker, remove the marker, slip stitch in it (middle stitch) and replace the marker, slip stitch in each st across till end of row. Turn your work.

Finishing Instructions:

STEP 1: Assemble the Brim

Fold your Brim in half length wise and join with slip stitching. Match stitch to stitch to join both 2 sides together.

STEP 2: Attach the Brim to the Hat

Attach the brim and the hat with slip stitching, placing your brims flat edge at the bottom edge of the hat were you want it to lay. I would recommend you to place the middle of your brim line up with the middle of hat, between 2 puff stitch patterns lines.

STEP 3: Make one more single crochet row and slip stitches row around the Hat

With your yarn and hook, make a single crochet row. Work 1 sc in each st around the hat from the brim corner to the next brim corner. Turn your work and make a slip stitch border around the hat from the brim corner to next brim corner. Work slip stitch in each stitch around.

Fasten off on the either end, stitch down the corner of the brim to the hat to secure it.

Optionally: Add 2 buttons of your choice

End off yarn, weave in ends. Turn your hat the right side out and smooth down.
You are all done with your amazing CROCHET NEWSBOY HAT!
